Core aeration involves removing small plugs of soil from your lawn to relieve compaction, improve water and nutrient absorption, and promote stronger root growth. It’s especially beneficial for lawns with heavy foot traffic or clay soil.
Aeration can be done throughout the year, but it’s most effective during the growing season — typically from early September through to March or April. Lawns with compacted soil or poor drainage may benefit from more frequent aeration to improve water and nutrient absorption.
Vertimowing (also known as dethatching) removes the thick layer of thatch that builds up between the soil and grass blades. This helps your lawn breathe, improves water absorption, and encourages new growth.
The best time to vertimow is during the growing season, typically from early September through to March or April. For Buffalo lawns, early October is ideal, while other lawn types respond well from early September onwards. This timing helps ensure a quicker and healthier recovery.

Getting ready for the reno season now that i’ve had my first taste of it. Con’s Core n Cuts stepped me through it all and was super professional!
Cain installed reticulation for my moderately sized lawn on the weekend and what can I say, he did a bloody amazing job. His a reliable, professional and punctual bloke who went above and beyond in the design and installation and also, explained every step and detail about what he was doing and if I was happy with it.
